A five-year-old boy who was shot in the head with an air gun pellet has been named as Alexander Moroz. The incident occurred near Nanpantan Road in Loughborough, Leicestershire, in the early hours of August 27. He was taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham but died three days later.
Alexander's parents, Genadij Moroz, 32, and Viktorija, 40, originally from Lithuania but now living in Leicester, described their son as 'beautiful' and 'like sunshine'. They said they are 'heartbroken' and struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. Mr Moroz noted that Alexander was on the organ donor list and his organs could save six lives.
Leicestershire Police are treating the death as unexplained. Two adults have been arrested in connection with the incident and released under investigation pending further inquiries. A post-mortem examination has taken place, and an inquest is set to open at Loughborough Coroner's Court.
Police are appealing for a group of rock climbers and people walking in the Nanpantan Road area on the afternoon and evening of August 26 to come forward. They also wish to speak to the driver of a car with a French number plate that was parked nearby at the time. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 38 of 27 August.
