Man Called Son After Killing Wife Outside Sydney Home, Court Hears

A man accused of murdering his wife outside their Sydney home made a chilling phone call to his son moments after the killing, court documents have revealed. Zoran Crnobrnja is charged with strangling his wife Vesna in November 2014 and leaving her body on the front lawn of their Casula property.

According to documents tendered in the NSW Supreme Court, Crnobrnja rang his son and said: 'I've just killed your mum. She's dead.' The son then called his mother's phone and asked to speak with her, but Crnobrnja answered again.

The couple had been married for 25 years and had three children, including a 17-year-old son. Neighbours described the Serbian couple as friendly and said they did everything together. Vesna was remembered as a bubbly woman who loved talking about her children, while Zoran would wave at passers-by.

Crnobrnja has a history of mental illness and had been admitted to mental health facilities several times. He told police the argument with his wife began after she suggested he needed help, allegedly saying: 'We will lock you up forever. We can't do any more.'

On Friday, Crnobrnja was declared mentally fit to stand trial for murder. Days after the killing, more than 50 students from the couple's son's school gathered at the house to pay tribute to Vesna, leaving flowers and messages.
