The family of a 44-year-old man who tragically died after getting into difficulty in a river have issued a heartfelt plea for the public to exercise caution near water.
Discovery of Greg Howes
Dive teams located the body of Greg Howes on Saturday afternoon in the River Yare at Surlingham, part of the Norfolk Broads. Emergency services had been alerted on Friday evening and conducted an extensive search throughout the night.
Family's Appeal
In a statement, Mr. Howes' family described him as 'dearly loved' and urged others to be vigilant around rivers and waterways. They expressed their deep gratitude to the search teams for their efforts.
Norfolk Police confirmed that the incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. The exact circumstances leading to Mr. Howes' death remain under investigation.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by open water, especially during warmer months when more people are drawn to rivers and lakes for recreation.
