A 33-year-old Romanian man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a four-year-old British boy at a hotel swimming pool in Magaluf, Majorca. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at an unnamed hotel in the popular party resort.
According to well-placed sources, the suspect approached the child and hugged and kissed him on the face in front of stunned holidaymakers. The boy's mother immediately challenged the man, prompting him to stop. Several witnesses alerted hotel staff, who called local police from Calvia Town Hall, which covers the Magaluf area.
Officers took statements from witnesses and the child's parents before arresting the suspect. He spent a night in a police cell and was escorted to court in Palma yesterday afternoon by two Civil Guard officers, still wearing the same top, shorts, and sandals he had on when arrested. The hearing was held behind closed doors, and it remains unclear whether the investigating judge decided to continue the investigation, release him on bail, or remand him to prison.
The British family has returned home, though it is unknown whether they cut their holiday short or were scheduled to leave. This incident follows another recent case in Majorca, where a van driver abducted and sexually assaulted a young British tourist on Palma's Paseo Maritimo promenade earlier this month. The suspect allegedly forced the woman into his vehicle after spotting her walking back to her hotel from a nightspot. She escaped when the driver stopped at a red light and witnesses intervened, capturing his licence plate, which led to his arrest.
