A man who threatened to blow up Jewish schools in London just hours after shouting 'I will kill you Jews' has been jailed for five years.
Tavius Jean-Charles, 36, subjected six victims to repeated threats over several months, with incidents occurring near synagogues in the Stoke Newington area. Southwark Crown Court heard that Jean-Charles directed his abuse at individuals he believed to be Jewish, including death threats and calls for attacks on educational institutions.
One victim became alarmed after Jean-Charles said, 'It would be good if we blew up one of their schools,' referring to Jewish schools in north London. This remark led to his arrest, and police discovered he had shouted 'I will kill you Jews' the previous day.
Sentence and Police Response
Jean-Charles was sentenced to five years in prison at Southwark Crown Court last week. The Metropolitan Police highlighted the sentence as evidence of its commitment to tackling hate crime. Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke stated, 'Jean-Charles told detectives he didn’t have any negative feelings towards Jewish people. The evidence shows otherwise. There is no place for hate in the capital.'
The case comes weeks after two Jewish men were stabbed in Golders Green, north London. Police counter-terrorism detectives are leading 11 investigations into attacks on Jewish and Iranian communities, including that stabbing. A total of 35 arrests have been made, with 10 people charged.
Details of Offences
Jean-Charles committed the offences between October 2025 and March 2026 near synagogues. Last month, he admitted seven racially-aggravated public order offences and one count of racially-aggravated criminal damage. He received an indefinite restraining order, preventing contact with victims and entry to the Stamford Hill area.
