Reckless Behaviour at Whitby Harbour Days After Withernsea Tragedy

Just 24 hours after a tragic incident at Withernsea claimed two lives, shocking footage has emerged of a person risking their life near the icy waves at Whitby harbour. The individual, wearing a green parka hooded coat, was seen edging dangerously close to the water on a slippery lifeboat and yacht ramp, as 15ft waves crashed into the harbour wall nearby.

The images were captured from live CCTV footage provided by Whitby Yacht Club. Despite some initial claims that the footage was generated by artificial intelligence, the poster quickly corrected this by sharing a link to the live stream.

Social media users reacted with disbelief and anger. One comment read: 'Why on earth would you do this? Absolutely ridiculous. They deserve all they get. Thick as.' Another added: 'Two have died and one missing in Withernsea - and people still do this?' Others criticised the lack of respect for the sea and the potential burden on rescue services.

The Withernsea tragedy unfolded on Friday, January 2, when a girl was swept away by a wave. Search and rescue teams recovered the body of a 67-year-old man and a second body, with one person still missing. Searches were stood down on Saturday evening.
