A man was deliberately set on fire at an apartment complex in the Illawarra region on Monday evening, prompting a police manhunt for the suspect who remains at large.

Incident Details

Emergency services were called to the Todd Street unit block in Warrawong, approximately 90 minutes south of Sydney, around 9:00 PM local time following reports of a fire. Upon arrival, officers from the Lake Illawarra Police District discovered that a 25-year-old man had been doused in petrol by an unknown individual and then ignited before the attacker fled the scene.

Victim's Condition

The victim sustained severe burn injuries and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and nearby residents. He was subsequently airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition, where he remains under medical care.
