Detectives from the Metropolitan Police have formally identified a man who was shot and killed in north-west London on Friday night. The victim has been named as 55-year-old Simon Whyte.
Appeal for Witnesses After Fatal Incident
The murder investigation was launched after police and paramedics were unable to save Mr Whyte's life. Officers were called to West End Close in Stonebridge, Brent, at 9.35pm on Friday night following reports of a shooting. Emergency first aid was administered at the scene by police before the London Ambulance Service arrived.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation from the Met’s Specialist Crime Team, expressed his condolences. "Firstly, our thoughts are with Simon’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time," he said.
Key Group Sought by Investigators
Officers are now making a specific appeal for information. They are particularly keen to speak to a small group of people who were congregated nearby when the incident occurred. Detectives believe this group may hold vital information.
"Enquiries are well underway, and my team is working at pace to determine the circumstances that led to his tragic death," DCI John stated. He also urged anyone with information to come forward, including those who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting.
Community Reassurance and Ongoing Investigation
Acknowledging the concern such a violent incident causes, DCI John sought to reassure local residents. "There’s no doubt this incident will cause concern in the local community and more widely, but we have increased patrols in the area," he confirmed. "I’d like to reassure the public that our investigation remains a priority."
As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made. The investigation continues as officers work to piece together the events that led to Simon Whyte's death.
