Manhunt After Elderly Woman Raped in Darwin Home

A man is on the run after allegedly raping an elderly woman inside her home in Woodroffe, outside Darwin. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the suspect entered the property through the back door.

Incident Details

The victim, a woman in her 80s, was at home on Woodroffe Avenue, Palmerston, when the unknown man entered the residence at approximately 8:50 pm. Police have not yet released a description of the suspect.

A spokesperson for NT Police stated that detectives are appealing for public assistance, urging anyone with information or CCTV footage to come forward.

'Around 8:50pm, police received a report that a woman was sexually assaulted at her residence on Woodroffe Avenue, Palmerston. An unknown male offender has allegedly entered through the rear door of the property, before sexually assaulting the woman and fleeing the scene,' the spokesperson said.

Government Response

During a press conference on Friday morning, NT Attorney-General Marie-Clare Boothby expressed her outrage over the attack.

'We need this person to be apprehended and dealt with because this kind of behaviour is not acceptable by our government,' she said.
