Manhunt for Eight After Norwegian Tourist Beaten and Robbed at St Kilda Pier
Manhunt for eight after tourist attacked at St Kilda Pier

A major police manhunt is underway in Melbourne following a violent robbery that left a Norwegian tourist with serious injuries. The incident, which has shocked locals and raised concerns about safety at a popular landmark, occurred at St Kilda Pier on Thursday.

Violent Assault on Visiting Tourist

A 34-year-old man from Norway was set upon by a group of eight individuals at around lunchtime. The tourist, who was visiting the iconic pier, was allegedly bashed by the group who then stole his mobile phone. In a final act of callousness, the assailants threw the stolen device into the ocean before fleeing the scene.

Disturbing footage of the attack, later shared on social media, shows the victim being chased down by the group before the assault takes place, with bystanders looking on. The injured man was taken to hospital where he was treated for a broken arm. His holiday plans in Australia were cut short, and he has since returned to his home country.

Police Appeal for Information on Suspects

Victoria Police were called to the scene, but the group had already escaped by the time officers arrived. Investigators have now released images of four people they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

The first man is described as being in his early 20s, of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance, with a thin build, a short goatee beard, and black curly hair.

The second man is also in his early 20s, of Caucasian appearance, with a short goatee and short brown hair. He was seen wearing a black New York Yankees beanie and an open grey short-sleeve shirt.

A third male is believed to be in his late teens to early 20s, Caucasian, with curly hair and shaved sides. He was wearing a Chicago Bulls #13 jersey and carrying a black satchel bag.

Police are also keen to speak to a woman who was seen wearing a red bikini. She is in her early 20s, has a slim build and dark hair, and sports several distinctive tattoos on her chest, leg, and arm.

Community Urged to Come Forward

The entire group involved in the attack are believed to be aged between their late teens and early twenties. The brazen nature of the daytime assault at a busy tourist spot has prompted a significant police response.

Authorities are urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000. The release of the images and descriptions indicates detectives are following active lines of inquiry to identify and locate those responsible for this serious crime.
