A major search operation on the River Tawe in Swansea has concluded with the recovery of a man's body, after emergency services were scrambled to the scene in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Large-Scale Emergency Response
South Wales Police were first called to Quay Parade in Swansea at approximately 7:50 am on Thursday, November 13, following a report that a person had entered the water. The initial call to services was logged slightly earlier, at around 7.40 am.
The police force coordinated a significant multi-agency response. Crews from the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the RNLI, and the coastguard all attended the incident. The Welsh Ambulance Service also deployed substantial resources, sending one emergency ambulance, a Cymru High Acuity Response Unit, an operations manager, and a specialist hazardous area response team.
Body Located by Divers
The intensive search of the river continued for several hours. Shortly before 1.30 pm, divers aiding in the operation successfully located the body of a man.
The body was subsequently recovered from the River Tawe. A formal identification process is yet to take place, and police have not released further details about the individual at this time.
Ongoing Investigation
The circumstances surrounding the incident are now under investigation by South Wales Police. The force has confirmed the basic details of the response and the tragic outcome, but the investigation is in its early stages.
This marks a sad conclusion to a desperate rescue effort that involved numerous emergency service personnel throughout the day.
