Mother Detained After Alleged Fatal Knife Attack and Castration of Partner

A murder investigation is underway in Bilbao, Spain, after a 55-year-old mother allegedly stabbed her partner to death and severed his penis. The suspect, identified as Maria, a Venezuelan national, reportedly confessed to the killing when police arrived at the couple's flat in the Uribarri neighbourhood on 30 January.

Chilling Details Emerge from the Crime Scene

According to a Department of Security press release, officers from the Ertzaintza police force responded to a report of a suspected homicide. Upon entering the residence, they discovered the body of 67-year-old Luis M with multiple stab wounds, including injuries to his neck and other areas. Authorities confirmed that his genitals had been completely removed.

Neighbours living in flats both above and below the couple's residence reported hearing screams and shouts emanating from the home prior to the incident. The couple had been in a relationship for approximately five years and were known to frequent local establishments together.

Daughter's Distress and Immediate Aftermath

The investigation reveals that one of Maria's adult daughters, who was very close to the victim, made the emergency call after her mother reportedly confessed to the attack early in the morning. When the first police patrol arrived at the scene, the young woman was reportedly shouting in the street, "My mother killed my father!"

A short time later, Maria was taken into custody in handcuffs and transported to the Ibarrekolanda police station for questioning. The victim's body was removed from the building around midday and transferred to Bilbao Courthouse for a full autopsy.

Community Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

Luis, who owned a bar in the area and had three sons along with several grandchildren, was described by acquaintances as part of a seemingly normal couple. Leydi, a bakery owner and friend to both individuals, expressed shock to local media, stating, "We never expected this, especially not in the way it happened. When I left work, I always had a beer or a glass of moscato on the terrace with them. They talked, they laughed. There must be more to this."

A local taxi driver added, "No one knows what goes on inside people's homes. They seemed like a normal couple, not toxic in the least. A separated man who gets together with a new woman. We're shocked. No one saw this coming."

Suspect's Condition and Legal Proceedings

Maria is currently being held in hospital for treatment of cuts and minor injuries believed to have been sustained during the alleged knife attack. A duty judge has visited her in hospital to take an official statement before authorising her provisional imprisonment without bail.

The investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Police have indicated that the couple had been experiencing relationship difficulties, with reports suggesting jealousy issues may have contributed to the violent confrontation.
