Mum-of-Five in Coma in Gran Canaria as Family Battles to Bring Her Home
Mum-of-Five in Coma in Gran Canaria: Family Fights to Bring Her Home

A British mother of five is fighting for her life in a coma in Gran Canaria, with her family desperately trying to bring her back to the UK. Emily Casey, 34, from Wirral, fell seriously ill just three days into a family holiday with her husband Jamie and their five children.

Sudden Illness

On May 13, Emily began struggling to breathe and was rushed to a local hospital. Having recently recovered from pneumonia, doctors initially suspected a blood clot in her lung. Jamie was asked to pay £3,000 upfront for a CT scan, which Emily's father John transferred. The scan revealed that pneumonia had returned, and one of her lungs was full of fluid requiring drainage.

That evening, Jamie returned to their hotel to care for the children. Throughout the night, he repeatedly called and texted Emily but received no reply. The next morning, he rushed back to the hospital and discovered she had been placed in an induced coma on life support.

Family's Ordeal

Panicked, Jamie contacted relatives in the UK. Emily's mother flew to Gran Canaria to help care for her. When the holiday ended on May 19, Jamie returned to Liverpool with the children to arrange childcare before flying back to his wife's bedside. Upon his return, he learned that Emily had developed sepsis. On May 23, scans showed that pneumonia had taken over her lungs again and sepsis had entered her bloodstream.

The family now faces hospital bills exceeding £8,000. Because Emily had recently recovered from pneumonia, her insurance provider has refused to cover the costs. The family is desperately appealing for help to bring her home.
