A man has been formally charged with murder following a violent incident at a remote campground on New South Wales' Mid North Coast, where an alleged axe attack resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to another.

Emergency Response to Rural Campground

Emergency services were urgently dispatched to Thora, located approximately 25 kilometres northwest of Bellingen, shortly after midnight on Monday. Upon arrival, paramedics discovered a 33-year-old man who had succumbed to critical head injuries sustained during the attack.

Details of the Alleged Assault

Officers from the New England Police District were informed that the victim had allegedly been struck with an axe around 10:30 PM on Sunday. At the time, he was camping with two friends in the rural area. One of the friends, a 25-year-old woman, reportedly drove the injured man from Ebor to Thora in a desperate attempt to seek medical assistance.

The woman also reported being assaulted during the incident, suffering bruising to her neck, for which she received treatment. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack, with further updates expected as the case progresses.
