West Midlands Police have launched an urgent search for the mother of a newborn baby girl whose body was found in a pile of rubbish at a warehouse in Rowley Regis. The infant was discovered on Thursday morning, June 25, at an industrial site on Station Road, after waste was brought there by a private operator.
Discovery and Investigation
The baby, believed to be a girl, was located within waste that had been transported to the site on Wednesday, June 24. Police do not believe the waste operator, which covers the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and West Mercia regions, is linked to the death. Forensic examinations are ongoing to identify the infant and determine the cause of death.
Police Appeal for Mother
Detective Chief Inspector Kylie Westlake of the Public Protection Unit said: "While we don't yet know what has happened, what we do know is that there must be a mother out there who is in real need of help – and she is our absolute priority at the moment." She added that police have been checking CCTV and speaking to hospitals, but the mother may not be aware of the appeal. "I really want to speak to her to make sure she's OK, and to ensure that she can get the help that she urgently needs," Westlake said.
Public Assistance Requested
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, especially those who may have noticed a baby and mother who have not been seen for several days. A Major Incident Public Portal has been set up for direct submissions to the police. The force emphasized that all information will be treated sensitively.
