Seven individuals were captured on surveillance footage emerging from a manhole in Gravesend, Brooklyn, early on Friday morning before leaving in waiting vehicles. The group, some appearing to wear waders and carry flashlights, gathered near cars to remove gear before driving away. This incident occurred approximately an hour after a similar group of eight people was seen entering and exiting a sewer manhole in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Investigation Underway
The NYPD is investigating both occurrences to determine if they are connected, though the reason for the groups being underground remains unknown. The NYC Department of Environmental Protection stated that entering the sewer system is illegal and extremely dangerous due to hazards like noxious gases and unstable surfaces.
Public Safety Concerns
Officials have warned that such activities pose serious risks not only to the individuals involved but also to public infrastructure. Anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities.
