Police evacuated residents from their homes in an emergency incident that has closed a street in south London for approximately 12 hours. Emergency services have been present on Stanstead Road in Catford since around 11:30 pm on Wednesday, according to a local resident.
Road Closure and Cordon
The road has been cordoned off from Cranston Road to the Blythe Hill Tavern pub, with an inner cordon established. Photographs from the scene show armed police officers in attendance. The nature of the incident remains unknown at this time.
Witness Accounts
An eyewitness told The Independent that residents living within the inner cordon on Stanstead Road were evacuated from their homes shortly after police arrived. One resident described the scene: "They just evacuated and they just started every door, every house. Everybody was evacuated. We were all just out on the street."
Those evacuated from flats have been taken to the nearby Ladywell Centre but have been out of their homes for 11 hours, the resident added. The Metropolitan Police has been contacted for comment but has not yet responded.
