Former England international Raheem Sterling has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after allegedly crashing his Lamborghini on the M3 motorway. The incident occurred on Thursday morning near the Minley Interchange, with police receiving reports at just before 9am.
Details of the Incident
Hampshire Police confirmed that the Lamborghini collided with motorway barriers, but no other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. The driver, a 31-year-old man from Berkshire, was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug, and failing to provide a specimen. He has been released on bail while investigations continue.
Sterling's Recent Struggles
A source close to Sterling described the psychological toll of the past two years, stating: "The psychological strain that has been put on him is immeasurable. Isolated. The second he touches a ball, being told he’s a flop and he’s finished. Mocked. Heckled." The source added that Sterling moved to the Netherlands to escape the negativity but it followed him. Sterling's representatives declined to comment.
Sterling's career has declined sharply since leaving Manchester City for Chelsea in a £50 million deal in 2022. He won 10 major trophies at City, including four Premier League titles. At Chelsea, he was exiled from the first team under manager Enzo Maresca and spent over six months training away from the squad. A failed loan spell at Arsenal in the 2024-25 season followed, and his Chelsea contract was terminated months ago.
In February 2025, Sterling signed for Feyenoord, making eight appearances without scoring before his contract expired at the end of the season. He previously played for Liverpool and earned 82 caps for England, with his last appearance in the 2022 World Cup quarter-final defeat to France.
