In a bizarre twist of events, a dozing burglary suspect was apprehended after apparently nodding off midway through raiding a family home on April Fool's Day. Nottinghamshire Police reported that officers were dispatched to a residence in the market town of Newark following reports of an ongoing burglary in the early hours of April 1.
Early Morning Response
Upon arrival at approximately 3:15 am, the responding officers observed that a window had been smashed. Concerned for the homeowner's safety and suspecting an intruder might still be inside, the team made the decision to enter the property.
An Unexpected Discovery
Instead of confronting an active criminal, the scene that greeted them could easily have been mistaken for an elaborate April Fool's prank. The house was completely empty, save for one man found sleeping on a floor bed adjacent to an infant's cot in one of the rooms.
The ensuing farce was captured on police body-worn camera footage, which has since been released by the force. The video shows an officer grabbing the suspect by the arm while colleagues loudly command, 'Get up!'
