The East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed on Sunday that both suspects, aged 19 and 15, have been formally charged with multiple serious offences. These include attempted murder, obstructing justice, and the reckless discharge of a firearm. The charges stem directly from the shooting that occurred during the Mardi Gras in the Country Parade on Saturday.
Clinton, the location of the incident, is situated approximately 30 miles north of Baton Rouge. The parade, typically a festive community celebration, was abruptly transformed into a scene of chaos and fear when gunfire erupted.
Five Victims, Including Young Child, Expected to Survive
Among the five people injured was a 6-year-old child. Sheriff's Chief Criminal Deputy Bill Cox provided reassurance on Saturday, stating that all victims are expected to survive their injuries. As of Sunday, the sheriff's office reported no changes in the victims' conditions, though the investigation remains active.
The shooting prompted an immediate law enforcement response, leading to the detention of three individuals found with firearms near the parade route. While two of those detained are the teenagers now facing attempted murder charges, a third person, a 26-year-old man, has been charged separately with illegal possession of a firearm.
