A five-year-old girl has tragically died following a horrific two-vehicle collision on the A59 in Gisburn, Lancashire. The crash also left a five-year-old boy with severe injuries, along with two adults.

Details of the Collision

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 3:55 pm on Thursday, May 21. A Skoda Karoq traveling westbound collided with a VW Golf R. The driver of the Skoda, a woman in her 60s, and two child passengers—a girl and a boy, both aged five—sustained serious injuries.

Lancashire Police have confirmed that the young girl died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon. Her family is being supported by specially trained officers during this difficult time.

Current Condition of Those Injured

The driver of the Skoda and the five-year-old boy remain in hospital receiving treatment for their injuries. The driver of the VW Golf R, a man in his 20s, also suffered serious injuries and is still hospitalized. He is being treated as a witness in the ongoing investigation.

Sgt Laura Kendall, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, expressed her sorrow: "It is heartbreaking news that the little girl has passed away and my thoughts first and foremost are with her family and loved ones. My thoughts also continue to be with the three people who remain in hospital being treated for the injuries they received in this terrible collision."

Appeal for Witnesses

Sgt Kendall urged the public to refrain from speculation: "We ask you to please refrain from speculating about what happened. The investigation will determine this and speculative comments around what might have happened can be very distressing for the family of the little girl."

The investigation into the collision is ongoing. Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
