A 37-year-old man from Dunmow was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death. He has been bailed until July while inquiries continue, Essex Police said on Sunday.

The dog involved, a family pet believed to be a lurcher crossbreed, has been seized. Tests are under way to formally establish the breed. Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper expressed condolences and urged the public to respect the family's privacy during this difficult time.
