Two men were killed and three others critically injured on Friday night after a suspected drunk driver lost control of his car and plowed onto a New York City sidewalk. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the Manhattan Valley neighborhood, near Amsterdam Avenue and West 109th Street.
Crash Details
The 61-year-old driver of a black Mercedes-Benz SUV allegedly struck multiple parked vehicles before jumping the curb and crashing into a group of men outside a barber shop. The deceased victims were identified as a 35-year-old man and a 46-year-old man. According to reports, the 35-year-old was a father of triplets, while the 46-year-old worked as a doorman.
Investigation Underway
The driver was taken into custody at the scene. The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is conducting a thorough investigation into the crash. Authorities are examining whether alcohol impairment played a role in the incident.
