Police have issued an urgent public appeal for information following the unexplained death of a young man in West Cornwall.
Tragic Discovery at Collegewood Viaduct
Emergency services were called to the scene below the Collegewood Viaduct in Penryn, near Falmouth, at approximately 8.40am on Saturday, April 27. Despite the immediate efforts of paramedics, a 20-year-old man found at the location was pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and detectives have stated that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Search for Two Key Witnesses
In a significant development, Devon and Cornwall Police have now released CCTV images of two men they are keen to identify. Investigators believe these individuals came into contact with the deceased earlier on the evening before his body was discovered.
A police spokesperson explained that after exhausting all other avenues to identify the pair, a public appeal was necessary. "Detectives have tried to identify them through 'other means' but now have had to appeal for help from the public," the force said.
The public are urged to come forward with any information. "Anyone who knows the men pictured or has information which may assist us, is asked to get in touch by calling 101 or via our website quoting reference 50250103868," the appeal stated.
Cornwall Crime Statistics Context
The appeal comes amid recent data showing a complex picture of crime in the region. According to a BBC report, recorded crime in Devon and Cornwall increased by 11.7 per cent between March 2024 and March 2025, a period which saw national crime rates decline.
However, police authorities attribute this rise largely to improved reporting methods. A force statement clarified: "The increase in recorded crime includes a 15.2% increase in theft and this is largely due to an increase in reported shoplifting offences."
It added: "Police data teams have carefully considered this comparison and concluded the most likely explanation is that the improvement in the 101 non-emergency service has increased the reporting of crimes."
Officers continue to investigate the tragic events at the viaduct and are appealing for anyone with knowledge of the two men in the CCTV images, or of the victim's movements that evening, to contact them immediately.
