A man accused of striking a child with his utility vehicle and fleeing the scene has voluntarily presented himself to law enforcement authorities. New South Wales Police confirmed that officers have spoken with a 50-year-old individual who arrived at Bankstown Police Station, situated in Sydney's western suburbs, at approximately 6:30 PM on Tuesday evening.
Investigation into the Incident
Investigators had previously issued a public appeal to identify the driver of a gold Nissan Navara ute believed to be involved in the collision that occurred earlier in the week. CCTV footage captured the moment a 12-year-old boy was interacting with three companions before stepping onto the westbound lanes of Milperra Road, Revesby, between Edgar Street and Mons Road at around 3:20 PM on Monday.
The child was struck by the rear passenger side of the utility vehicle. Authorities initially believed that the driver might not have been aware that the boy had been hit. Following the impact, the 12-year-old fell to the ground, and the driver failed to stop at the scene.
Medical Response
Paramedics were dispatched and transported the boy to Sydney Children's Hospital, where he was admitted in a serious but stable condition. The hospital continues to monitor his recovery.
