Boy orphaned as drunk driver kills parents and sister at Christmas

A three-year-old boy has been left orphaned in a horrific Christmas tragedy after a suspected drunk driver killed his parents and five-year-old sister in a head-on collision in Texas.

A Festive Journey Ends in Devastation

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 2am on December 20 in Fort Bend County. The Contreras family, from Harris County, were driving home northbound after a Christmas party when their vehicle was struck head-on by a car allegedly travelling the wrong way in their lane.

Lizbeth Rodriguez Contreras, 27, and her daughter, Camila Peña, 5, were pronounced dead at the scene. The father, Diego Peña Jr, 26, and the couple's three-year-old son were airlifted to hospital in a critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Diego Peña Jr later succumbed to his injuries.

The young boy remains the family's sole survivor and is currently in a stable but critical condition in hospital.

Suspect Charged and Community Support

Police arrested Majesti Faith Lee, 27, who was also injured in the crash and treated for non-life-threatening wounds. Lee now faces serious charges, including intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. Officials confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the incident. Lee's bail has been set at $1,050,000.

In a statement, Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan said: "Our hearts are with the family as they endure an unimaginable loss. This tragedy is a painful reminder of how quickly lives can be changed when impaired driving occurs."

A GoFundMe page was swiftly established by Lizbeth and Diego's siblings to support the orphaned boy and cover medical expenses. The fundraiser, which has nearly reached its $100,000 target, paints a picture of a devoted young family.

A Family Remembered

The page described Lizbeth as a fourth-grade teacher at Metcalf Elementary School who adored being a mother. Diego was recalled as a proud and involved father who worked overtime to provide for his family. Their daughter, Camila, was remembered for her "contagious smile that would make it impossible for you to have a bad day."

The devastating incident serves as a stark warning about the catastrophic consequences of drink-driving, particularly during the festive season when celebrations are frequent. The community is now rallying to support a young boy who has lost everything.
