Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, was jailed for three-and-a-half years at Liverpool Crown Court after being convicted of assaulting Pc Lydia Ward, causing actual bodily harm, during an attack at Manchester Airport in July 2024. The incident went viral on social media and left Pc Ward with a broken nose. Police bodycam footage showed her bloodied and sobbing. Amaaz also knocked Pc Ellie Cook to the ground with elbows and punches.
Gang feud leads to stabbing and revenge attack in Rochdale
Mohammed Hassan Alam, 26, Asad Ali, 31, and his wife Sonia Ali, 34, have been jailed for a violent attack. Masked thugs armed with a machete and sword stormed a family home in Rochdale, stabbing a man. His mother was hurt defending him. Months later, Alam, the getaway driver, was rammed off the road in a revenge attack, his car flipping before he was dragged out and assaulted. Ali orchestrated the original attack, and Sonia Ali facilitated it.
CrossFit athlete jailed for killing man by running him over
Megan Murphy, 26, a personal trainer and CrossFit athlete, was jailed for six years and banned from driving for eight years. On January 9 last year, she spent seconds defrosting her windscreen before driving the wrong way down a one-way road in Marsh Green, Wigan. She drove over Darryl Tomlinson, 31, who had collapsed in the road after drinking, then reversed and drove over him again. She later lied to police, saying 'I didn't see him', and called him a 'smackhead' while he was under her car. Neighbours had called 999 but police and paramedics could not find him. She pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Man on metal pole rampage jailed for three months
Eric Mwangi, 35, armed with a metal pole, smashed windscreens in a car park on Pomona Strand, Trafford, causing nearly £4,000 damage on March 2. He pleaded guilty to 15 counts of criminal damage and has 11 previous convictions covering 28 offences. He was jailed for three months, concurrent on all counts, and was due for release on June 24.
Two men jailed and to be deported after Bolton cannabis grow
Ridgan Taga, 26, and Leonard Tota, 26, were jailed after a 'large-scale' cannabis farm was discovered on Newport Street, Bolton, on December 23 last year. The property was professionally adapted with an illegal electricity bypass. CCTV showed a black van accessing the property; Tota was arrested at his home where Taga was also found. Both are due to be deported.
Depraved couple jailed for child abuse images
Andrew Boyd, 41, and Lara Boyd, 40, from Tameside, secretly photographed and filmed an underage child. The couple, who appeared as ordinary middle-class workers, took enormous amounts of cocaine and drank heavily. They had a sexual interest in the child and shared disgusting WhatsApp chats. They have been jailed.
