Teenager on trial for Amen Teklay murder allegedly confessed
A 16-year-old boy accused of murdering 15-year-old Amen Teklay allegedly confessed to stabbing him through the heart, a court has heard. The teenager, along with a 17-year-old co-accused, is said to have assaulted Amen in the St George’s Cross area of Glasgow on March 5, 2025. Prosecutors claim the boys brandished a sword and frying pan at Amen while both masked, chasing him before striking him with the sword. Amen, originally from Eritrea but living in Glasgow with his father, died from his injuries in Clarendon Street.
A special defence of self-defence has been lodged by the 16-year-old. Jurors watched footage of a police interview with a third youth, aged 16, who was initially arrested but later released. The third youth told officers that he received a phone call from another boy who said the 16-year-old on trial stabbed Amen. When the third youth confronted the accused at school, he claimed the accused confessed: “I asked him and he told me. He confessed to it.”
