The Director of Public Prosecutions for England and Wales, Stephen Parkinson, has publicly confirmed that prosecutors are maintaining close contact with police forces investigating the connections between Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Peter Mandelson and the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. This announcement came during a press briefing on Wednesday, where Parkinson emphasised the collaborative nature of such sensitive investigations while clarifying that no formal legal advice has yet been requested from the Crown Prosecution Service.
Dual Police Investigations Underway
Thames Valley Police is currently reviewing serious allegations against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, which include claims that the convicted child sex offender Epstein provided him with a woman for sexual purposes at Royal Lodge in 2010. Additionally, investigators are examining assertions that the former prince shared confidential government trade reports with Epstein during his tenure as a UK trade envoy between 2001 and 2011.
Simultaneously, the Metropolitan Police has launched a separate investigation into allegations against former Labour peer Peter Mandelson. This probe focuses on potential misconduct in public office, specifically regarding emails containing market-sensitive information that Mandelson apparently sent to Epstein while serving as business secretary during the financial crisis.
Documentary Evidence from US Sources
The investigations stem from documents recently released by the US Department of Justice relating to Epstein and his extensive network of wealthy and influential contacts. Among the released materials were emails that appeared to show Mountbatten-Windsor sharing detailed reports of official visits to Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Singapore with the financier.
Buckingham Palace has responded to these developments by stating it remains ready to support any police investigation involving Mountbatten-Windsor, though the former prince has consistently denied any wrongdoing throughout.

Parkinson expressed confidence in the CPS's ability to provide appropriate legal guidance regarding the offence of misconduct in public office, despite widespread concerns about the clarity and definition of this common law offence, which is currently being replaced by statutory legislation.
