Reece Spearman, 29, has appeared in Newcastle Magistrates' Court accused of holding a knife to a man's neck and threatening to kill him near Central Station Metro Station. The incident allegedly occurred on June 3 near the Westgate Road entrance of the Metro station.
Alleged Threat and Weapon
Prosecutor Clare Haswell told the court that Spearman allegedly pulled out a lock knife and held it to the victim's neck while stating, "I will kill you, I just got out of jail for murder." The defendant, of West View in Benwell, faces one count of threatening a person with a bladed article.
Additional Criminal Damage Charge
Spearman also faces an unrelated charge of criminal damage, accused of damaging a glass panel worth £342 belonging to Newcastle City Council on April 5 this year. He entered not guilty pleas to both matters.
Court Proceedings and Bail
Defense lawyer Jack Lovell agreed that the case could be tried at magistrates' court. Magistrates accepted jurisdiction and listed the trial for October 12 at the same court. Spearman was released on conditional bail, requiring him to live at his provided address, abide by a curfew from 7pm to 6am, and not enter the parking metre zone of Newcastle.
