Nick Reiner booked for murder after parents found dead

Police in Los Angeles have confirmed the arrest of Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of legendary Hollywood director Rob Reiner, on suspicion of murder following the brutal deaths of his parents.

Grim Discovery at Brentwood Mansion

Nick Reiner was taken into custody on Sunday evening after emergency services made a horrific discovery at the family's multi-million dollar home. The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the property on South Chadbourne Avenue at 3:30pm local time for a medical aid request.

Inside the sprawling six-bedroom mansion, they found the bodies of Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele, 68. Both victims had suffered fatal lacerations consistent with a knife attack. Police have stated there were no signs of forced entry at the $13.5 million property.

Arrest and Official Statements

Nick Reiner was arrested at 21:15 on Sunday and formally booked for murder on Monday morning. His bail has been set at a substantial $4 million (£3 million). Official documents described the arrest as related to "Gang Activity," though police have not elaborated on this classification.

During a press conference, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed the identities of the deceased and named their son as a suspect. "Their son Nick is a suspect in the case and has been booked for murder," McDonnell stated.

A senior officer told reporters that investigators plan to speak with all relevant family members and associates as part of the routine procedure for a case of this nature. Detectives are set to conduct a detailed forensic examination of the mansion, which has been preserved in the condition officers first found it.

Family Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

The Reiner family released a sombre statement expressing profound sorrow. "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time," a spokesperson said.

Rob Reiner's eldest daughter, Tracy Reiner, who was adopted during his first marriage to Penny Marshall, told NBC she was in "shock." She had seen her father the day before the incident for a family gathering. "I came from the greatest family ever. I don't know what to say. I'm in shock," she repeated.

It is believed the couple's daughter, Romy, discovered the bodies. She has reportedly told police that a family member "should be a suspect" as they were "dangerous." Deputy Police Chief Alan Hamilton confirmed the force would continue interviewing several family members.

The investigation, led by the Robbery Homicide Division (RHD), remains active. Police initially stated they were seeking a search warrant and were "not looking for anyone as a suspect," a position that changed rapidly with Nick Reiner's arrest.
