A grim update has been issued in the double murder case of acclaimed Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, as their son faces court charged with their killings.
Medical Examiner's Findings and Court Appearance
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has confirmed that Rob Reiner's death was caused by "multiple sharp force injuries". The couple were discovered deceased in their bed at their Brentwood mansion in Los Angeles on Sunday. Sources indicate the pair had their throats slit while they slept.
Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, appeared in a Los Angeles court for an arraignment hearing on Wednesday, 17 December 2025. He was seen in shackles and what appeared to be a suicide prevention vest. Nick Reiner waived his right to enter a plea at this initial hearing, speaking only three words. The judge barred filming, and the case was adjourned until 7 January.
A Family's Unimaginable Grief
The couple's daughter, Romy, is reported to have found her father's body, with a paramedic later informing her that her mother had also died. Police sources noted that rigor mortis had set in, suggesting the Reiners had been dead for several hours before discovery.
In their first public statement since the tragedy, surviving children Romy and Jake Reiner expressed profound devastation. "Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day," they said. "The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends."
The siblings appealed for privacy, compassion, and for their parents to be remembered for their incredible lives and love.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
Nick Reiner's lawyer, Alan Jackson, addressed the media outside court, cautioning against a rush to judgement. "There are complex and serious issues at play," Jackson stated, adding that nothing substantive had occurred in the case that day.
The Los Angeles Police Department continues its investigation into the shocking incident that has sent ripples through the entertainment world and beyond. The next key date in the legal process is the scheduled court hearing on 7 January, where Nick Reiner may enter a formal plea.
