Former Nursery Worker Hit with 15 New Child Sex Charges

A former nursery worker who previously admitted to a series of serious sexual offences against a young girl is now facing a raft of new charges. Vincent Chan, 45, is accused of nine counts of taking an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child and six counts of outraging public decency.

These latest allegations, which did not occur at the nursery, predate his employment and relate to incidents at a different location. Chan had been due to be sentenced this Friday for 26 separate counts, including assaulting a girl under 13 and making indecent photographs, to which he pleaded guilty last month.

Sentencing Hearing Postponed Amid New Allegations

During a brief administrative hearing at Wood Green Crown Court, His Honour Judge John Dodd KC confirmed the sentencing hearing scheduled for this Friday would be postponed. This delay follows the authorisation of the 15 new charges against Chan at the end of last week.

Prosecutor Philip Stott outlined the situation to the court, stating: "Mr Chan is due to be sentenced in respect of a number of serious sexual offences to which he has pleaded guilty regarding offences at his place of employment, the Bright Horizons nursery. There have been further charges authorised."

Chan, of Stanhope Avenue, Finchley, was not required to attend this hearing and did not enter a plea to the new charges. A further hearing will be held at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday to confirm a new date for his sentencing.

Background of the Case and Court Process

Vincent Chan, a British man of Chinese heritage, worked as an art teacher at a branch of the Bright Horizons nursery in West Hampstead, north London, from 2017 until earlier this year. The nursery involved has since been shut down.

He will now have to appear at Highbury Magistrates' Court on a date yet to be fixed to formally face the 15 new allegations. The court process continues as authorities seek to address the full extent of his alleged crimes.
