A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after an unknown intruder broke into a house in Fallowfield, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have confirmed. The incident occurred on Furness Road at around 3:13 AM on Thursday, June 25.
Arrest and Charges
Officers responding to reports of a suspected intruder located the man inside the property. He was initially arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and later further arrested on suspicion of rape. Detectives have stated they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.
Community Response
Local councillor Jane Doswell expressed deep concern following the incident and called for an urgent briefing with GMP. "My heart goes out to the victim, and their family and housemates. It is disgusting that anybody is subject to attacks like this," she said in a statement.
Police Statement
GMP confirmed that specialist officers are supporting the victim, their family, and friends. A scene remains in place on Furness Road with a visible police presence. "We would like to reassure the community that this is believed to be an isolated incident. A scene remains in place, with a visible police presence in the area," a police statement read. "To protect the privacy of the victim and their loved ones, we ask that people do not speculate about the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact police directly."

Detective Inspector Mark Astbury from the City of Manchester CID said: “Officers will remain in the area as enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding this frightening incident. We understand this will be concerning for the local community, however we would like to reassure people that we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation. Our priority is, and always will be, the victim. Specialist officers are providing support to them and their loved ones at this time, and we would ask that their privacy is respected.”
