A man who legally changed his name to Santa Claus has been arrested by police in a sting operation targeting child predators, authorities reported. The 75-year-old, formerly known as George Quigley, was taken into custody in Kenner, Louisiana, after allegedly arranging to meet a detective posing as a 15-year-old boy for sexual acts.
Arrest Details and Charges
Kenner Police said Claus was one of 11 people arrested in separate operations over the weekend. He faces charges of illegal computer-aided solicitation of a minor and indecent behavior with a juvenile. Police released a photo showing Claus with a long gray beard and dressed in red, resembling the iconic Santa Claus figure.
According to a statement from Kenner Police on Facebook, Claus initiated contact through a dating application with an undercover detective whom he believed to be a 15-year-old boy. During the conversations, he allegedly discussed engaging in sexual acts with the child and ultimately arranged to meet the juvenile in person in Kenner. When he arrived at the predetermined location, detectives took him into custody without incident.
Police Warning to Parents
Chief Keith Conley said: “All these defendants are a danger to our youth and society. We preach daily about the vulnerability of our children on social media and gaming platforms, and now we have arrested a person who dresses up as Santa Claus inviting parents to drop their young children in his lap for photo ops. This is a cautionary tale to parents and guardians.”
Conley added: “Anyone who uses the anonymity of the internet to exploit children should understand one thing—we are there too. Our investigators will continue to identify these predators, build strong cases, and bring them to justice before they have the opportunity to victimize a child.”
Operation Context
The sting operation by Kenner Police highlights ongoing efforts to combat online child exploitation. The force noted that Claus's physical appearance—taking on the persona of Santa Claus—was alarming given the nature of the alleged crime. The arrest has drawn widespread attention due to the suspect's legally adopted name and appearance.
