Bondi Beach Shooting: Suspect Trained with Father, Police Allege
Bondi Beach suspect trained with father, police say

Australian police have alleged that the man accused of a deadly mass shooting at Sydney's Bondi Beach underwent firearms training with his father in the lead-up to the attack, according to court documents.

Court Documents Reveal Alleged Preparation

The Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported on Monday, 22 December 2025, that a police statement of facts was made public following a video court appearance by the suspect, Naveed Akram. The 24-year-old appeared from a Sydney hospital.

The documents allege that Akram and his 50-year-old father, Sajid Akram, travelled to an area in New South Wales outside Sydney to conduct "firearms training." Furthermore, they reportedly recorded a video outlining their "justification" for the planned violence.

The Failed Attack and Deadly Outcome

The police statement details the events of 14 December. It is alleged the pair threw four improvised explosive devices towards a crowd at a Jewish event on Bondi Beach. Fortunately, the devices failed to explode.

The situation escalated dramatically when police intervened. Officers shot and killed Sajid Akram at the scene and wounded his son, Naveed. The New South Wales court media unit stated it could not immediately provide a copy of the full statement.

Multiple Charges Laid in Aftermath

Naveed Akram was formally charged last week with a total of 59 criminal offenses. These charges include 15 counts of murder and one count of committing a terrorist act, relating to the attack which claimed 15 lives.

The revelations about alleged pre-attack training and planning have added a new dimension to the investigation into one of Australia's most devastating acts of violence in recent years. The case continues to develop as authorities piece together the full timeline of events.
