The 55-year-old jockey sustained broken ribs and a broken thumb after his vehicle was struck by another car in Newmarket on the evening of Wednesday, 1st July.
H Talent Management, Dettori's management firm, released a statement detailing the incident: “H Talent Management can confirm that Frankie Dettori was involved in a road traffic accident in Newmarket on the evening of Wednesday, 1st July. Another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the car Frankie was driving, causing it to spin and flip.”
Injuries and Hospitalisation
Dettori was taken to hospital, where doctors discovered he had sustained several broken ribs and a broken thumb. The statement added: “His injuries are still being assessed, and he remains in hospital for further scans and observation.” The racing community has expressed widespread concern for the legendary jockey, who has won over 3,000 races in his career, including the Epsom Derby and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
