An Iranian ballistic missile attack on a Kuwaiti air base has left several Americans injured and caused significant damage to two US drones, escalating tensions in the region. The strike targeted the Ali Al Salem air base, where falling debris from an intercepted missile struck personnel and equipment.
Attack Details
According to Bloomberg, citing a source with direct knowledge of the incident, Iran launched a Fateh-110 missile at the Kuwaiti base. Kuwait's air defence systems successfully intercepted the projectile, but debris rained down on the facility, injuring approximately five individuals. The wounded include both contractors and active duty US military personnel, all of whom sustained minor injuries.
Drone Damage
The attack severely damaged two US MQ-9 Reaper drones stationed at the base. One drone was completely destroyed, while at least one other suffered serious damage. Bloomberg estimates the value of each drone at around $30 million, putting the total loss at approximately $60 million.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with a fragile ceasefire in the region now appearing increasingly precarious. The attack marks a significant escalation, potentially undermining diplomatic efforts to maintain stability.
US officials have not yet issued an official statement, but the reported casualties and equipment losses are likely to prompt a strong response. The Ali Al Salem air base is a key strategic location for US operations in the Middle East, and the destruction of high-value drones represents a serious blow to American military capabilities in the region.
