UK Warns of Terror Threat in UAE: Dubai Travel Alert Issued

The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has advised against all but essential travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), citing “significant security risks” amid escalating regional tensions. The warning follows an Iranian drone attack on Kuwait International Airport that injured multiple people and disrupted flights, raising concerns for holidaymakers.

The FCDO stated that the Iranian regime has “publicly stated its intention to target locations associated with the United States and Israel,” including organisations, businesses, facilities and institutions linked to those countries. Britons are advised to avoid areas around security or military facilities and US or Israeli-linked sites.

While Iranian strikes against civilian infrastructure have decreased, the FCDO warned that “the risk of renewed strikes remains, and further attacks could occur at short notice.” Travellers are urged to follow local authorities’ instructions, monitor media, and sign up for travel advice alerts. If an attack occurs, they should seek shelter immediately, ideally in a room with few external walls or windows.

The British embassies in Abu Dhabi and Dubai continue to operate normally. However, the FCDO noted that travel “within or out of the UAE is at your own risk.” Those whose presence is not essential may consider departing if safe options are available. Travellers are reminded that posting material critical of the UAE government or related to incidents is illegal, following the arrest of a British man for allegedly filming missiles.

Emirates airline is offering rebooking options and one complimentary date change for affected passengers. Under air passengers’ rights, travellers are entitled to be flown to their destination as soon as possible on any airline with available seats. The FCDO advises not to go to the airport unless the airline has confirmed the reservation.
