Zelensky Accuses Russia of 'Nuclear Terrorism' at Chernobyl on 40th Anniversary
Zelensky: Russia's Chernobyl Drone Attacks Are 'Nuclear Terrorism'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of engaging in 'nuclear terrorism' and warned that ongoing military activity near the Chernobyl nuclear plant risks repeating history. Speaking on the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, Zelensky highlighted that Russian-Iranian Shahed drones have been flying regularly over the plant, with one striking the confinement structure last year. He urged the international community to prevent this 'nuclear terrorism' by compelling Russia to cease its reckless attacks.

Zelensky's Warning on Chernobyl

Zelensky's remarks came during a solemn commemoration of the 1986 Chernobyl catastrophe, which remains the world's worst nuclear accident. He stressed that the current Russian military actions near the site are unacceptable and pose a grave threat to global safety. 'We must not allow history to repeat itself,' Zelensky stated, calling for immediate international pressure on Moscow to halt drone operations over the plant.

North Korea's Military Support for Russia

In a separate development, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has vowed to strengthen military support for Russia after Moscow's defence minister attended a memorial in Pyongyang. Russian and North Korean officials agreed to 'long-term' military cooperation, aiming to solidify their partnership until 2031. This agreement underscores the deepening alliance between the two nations amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
