Amazon Driver Accused of Stealing Family Cat from Yorkshire Doorstep
Amazon Driver Filmed Stealing Cat from Yorkshire Home

A distressed pet owner in West Yorkshire has issued a heartfelt plea for the safe return of his family's beloved cat after an Amazon delivery driver was captured on video apparently stealing the animal from their doorstep. The incident, which has sparked outrage and concern, occurred in Elland and was recorded on the family's security cameras.

Shocking Footage Reveals Alleged Theft

Carl Crowther, a 53-year-old maintenance worker, had been expecting a package on Monday, 19 January, but was away at his job when the delivery arrived around 2.30pm. Upon reviewing the footage the following day, Crowther was horrified to see the driver not only deliver the parcel but also pick up his cat, Nora, and walk away with her. He described the scene as the man "comes right up the door, picks up the cat, turns around and walks off," indicating a spontaneous act rather than a premeditated one.

Family's Desperate Worry for Nora's Health

Crowther and his family are "really worried" about Nora's safety, as she typically stays close to home and is unaccustomed to new environments. The concern is heightened by Nora's medical condition; she suffers from a heart murmur and requires regular medication. Crowther emphasised the urgency of her return, stating that her health could be at risk without proper care.

In an interview with YorkshireLive, Crowther expressed his devastation upon discovering the footage: "We were devastated when we saw the driver lingering about waiting to seize his opportunity. It was total shock and disbelief when he picked her up and shoved her into his car."

Police Investigation and Amazon's Response

The incident has been reported to West Yorkshire Police, who have confirmed that a theft crime has been recorded and inquiries are ongoing. However, Crowther has criticised Amazon's handling of the situation, claiming their response was inadequate. He recounted that the company asked about the monetary value of the cat, which he found insensitive, asking, "How can you put a value on somebody's pet?"

An Amazon spokesperson has acknowledged the incident, confirming that the company is investigating and has been in contact with the police. Despite this, Crowther feels more support is needed to locate Nora and the driver involved.

Community Impact and Ongoing Concerns

This case highlights broader issues around pet safety and the responsibilities of delivery personnel. As the investigation continues, the Crowther family remains hopeful for Nora's swift return, urging anyone with information to come forward. The emotional toll on the family underscores the deep bond between pets and their owners, making this alleged theft particularly distressing.
