Cleaning influencer Mrs Hinch, whose real name is Sophie Hinchliffe, has shared an emotional update following a distressing burglary at her mother's home in Maldon, Essex. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday 27th January between 10am and 6pm, saw thieves steal jewellery that belonged to her late father Alan, nearly two years after his passing.
Mother Left 'Shaken' by the Ordeal
Speaking to The Sun, Sophie revealed that her mother has been profoundly affected by the violation of her home. 'She's understandably shaken. We all are. She's being incredibly strong,' Sophie explained. The influencer added that her mother feels like she's 'taken a step back' in her grieving process due to the traumatic event.
Sentimental Value Beyond Measure
The stolen jewellery holds deep emotional significance for the family, particularly as a tangible connection to Sophie's father. 'The jewellery holds deep sentimental value to her, particularly as a connection to my dad, and that's what hurts most right now,' Sophie shared. She emphasised that while the items might be worthless to the thieves, they are 'priceless to my mum' who is still navigating life after losing her husband.
Police Investigation Underway
Sophie confirmed that Essex Police are 'fully involved' in the investigation. Authorities are examining camera footage from the area and maintaining surveillance around the property. Despite the family's hopes for leads, the recovery of the sentimental pieces remains uncertain.
Family Support and Decisions
In response to the burglary, Sophie has asked her mother to temporarily move in with her. However, respecting her mother's independence and preference for staying in her own home, the family is allowing her to 'lead the way' with any decisions about her living arrangements during this difficult time.
Public Plea for Return
Following the incident, Sophie took to her Instagram story, which reaches her 4.8 million followers, to directly address the perpetrators. She described the burglary as 'cruel, disgusting, and cowardly,' particularly targeting a grieving woman's home. Her emotional post pleaded for the return of the 'sentimental, irreplaceable pieces' that represented one of the few remaining connections to her late father.
Grief Compounded by Loss
The burglary has compounded the family's existing grief. Sophie's father passed away in May 2024 after being hospitalised with respiratory issues. She previously described grief as 'the club no one wants to be part of,' noting how it changes everything while life continues around you. The theft of her father's jewellery has 'brought up a lot of emotions' during this already challenging period.
Sophie remains hopeful that the jewellery will be found and returned to her mother's home where it belongs. She has made it clear that this matter 'WILL NOT be dropped' as the family seeks justice and the recovery of these precious mementos.
