A major city street in Bristol has been sealed off by police following a serious hit-and-run collision involving a car and a cyclist this afternoon.
Major Emergency Response in Bedminster
Emergency services, including at least two fire engines and four police cars, descended upon North Street in the Bedminster area after the incident was reported. Ambulance crews were also in attendance, and a police helicopter was deployed to assist from the air.
The collision was reported to Avon and Somerset Police just after 12:30pm on Sunday 11 January. According to a police spokesperson, the car involved failed to stop at the scene and left before officers arrived.
Arrest Made and Road Closures
Following swift enquiries to locate the vehicle, one person has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.
To facilitate a thorough investigation at the scene, police have implemented a significant road closure. North Street is shut at the junctions with King William Street, Sion Road, Braunton Road, Henburn Road and Fairfield Road. Motorists are being advised to find alternative routes while the police operation continues.
