Driver in Anthony Joshua Crash Faces Reckless Driving Prosecution
Driver in Anthony Joshua crash may be prosecuted

New reports suggest the driver involved in the devastating road accident that injured former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua could be prosecuted for reckless driving. A source close to the investigation has revealed that authorities are considering criminal charges following the crash that claimed two lives.

Investigation Points to Serious Traffic Breaches

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) investigation concluded the vehicle was travelling at excessive speed and performed a wrongful overtaking manoeuvre. These actions are considered serious violations of traffic laws, and when they result in fatalities, they can form the basis for criminal liability.

According to the insider, investigators are now finalising their documentation for the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division. Prosecutors are working with the police to decide on the most appropriate charges, with prosecution for dangerous or reckless driving causing death firmly under consideration.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The tragic incident occurred on Monday, 29 December 2025, along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The crash claimed the lives of Joshua's two close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, both aged 36. It is understood the pair, who were seated on the same side of the Lexus SUV, died instantly.

Anthony Joshua was seated behind the driver alongside another passenger when the collision happened. The boxing star sustained a fracture in one of his legs during the impact.

Joshua's Recovery and Public Reaction

The 36-year-old former champion is currently receiving treatment at the Duchess International Hospital in Lagos, one of Nigeria's leading medical facilities. His condition is described as stable, and he is expected to remain in hospital until the New Year.

His mother, Yeta Odusanya, has been at his bedside, though wider family members have not yet been permitted to visit. Joshua's older brother, David Joshua, stated, "We have not been allowed to see him, but from information given by authorities, he is responding to treatment." Joshua himself was quoted as saying, "I feel pain all over my body" after the accident.

While authorities have not made a formal public statement on the potential prosecution, the case has ignited a fresh public debate about road safety and accountability on Nigeria's highways.
