The family of a 27-year-old man killed in a devastating road collision in Yorkshire have paid a heartbreaking tribute, describing him as a "proud new daddy" who was "deeply loved" and taken from them far too soon.

Patrick Shaughnessy, aged 27, was one of two men who lost their lives in a tragic two-vehicle crash on the A614 near Holme-on-Spalding-Moor in East Yorkshire. The incident occurred at approximately 9.55pm on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Details of the Incident

According to Humberside Police, a blue Land Rover was travelling northbound along the A614 from Howden towards Holme-on-Spalding-Moor when it is believed to have been involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit van travelling in the opposite direction. The crash happened near Holme Road, outside Chestnut Farm.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but tragically, the two occupants of the Land Rover were pronounced deceased at the location. Patrick Shaughnessy was the 27-year-old passenger, while a 55-year-old man, who was driving the vehicle, also lost his life.

The driver of the white Ford Transit van, a 31-year-old man, was taken to hospital with injuries described by authorities as "believed to be life-changing." He remains under medical care following the horrific incident.

Family's Emotional Tribute

In a moving statement released through Humberside Police, Patrick's devastated family expressed their profound grief and love for the young father.

"Patrick was a deeply loved son, grandson and proud new daddy taken from us far too soon," the family said. "His kindness, laughter and fierce love for his family and friends will be carried in our hearts forever. Rest In Peace. Miss you, sithee xxx"

The family are currently being supported by specially-trained police officers as they come to terms with their sudden and tragic loss.
