Four people, including a young child, have been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a major road traffic collision in Liverpool on Christmas Eve.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Emergency services were called to the junction of East Lancashire Road and Stonebridge Lane in Croxteth at approximately 8.40pm on Wednesday, 24th December. The incident involved a collision between a grey car and a Ford Puma.
A large-scale response was launched, with police, fire, and ambulance crews all attending. Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service reported that two fire engines and a specialist search and rescue team were dispatched, arriving at the scene within four minutes of the call.
Rescue Operation and Injuries
Firefighters discovered that two people were trapped inside the vehicles. The male driver of the grey car sustained serious injuries. Crews performed a complex rescue, which included a full roof removal of one vehicle to free a casualty.
In total, four individuals were transported to hospital for treatment. These included the seriously injured male driver of the grey car, the male driver of the Ford Puma, a female front-seat passenger from the same vehicle, and an eight-year-old boy. The condition of the Ford Puma's driver is also described as serious, while the injuries to the woman and child are not believed to be life-threatening.
Road Closure and Police Appeal
In the aftermath of the crash, a police cordon was established and the East Lancashire Road was closed between Stonebridge Lane and Lower House Lane, causing significant traffic disruption. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
Merseyside Police have now launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collision. Forensic examinations were conducted at the scene.
The police are appealing to the public for information. A spokesperson said: "Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured the incident on CCTV or dashcam is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit."
