The Bolton community is in mourning after police confirmed the identities of four people killed in a devastating early morning collision. The head-on crash, which occurred on Wigan Road, claimed the lives of three teenagers and a man in his 50s.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the wreck at 2.44am on Sunday, 11 January 2026. The incident involved a Seat Leon and a Citroen C4 Picasso. Tragically, the three teenage occupants of the Seat Leon and the driver of the Citroen, believed to be a taxi driver, were pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition to the four fatalities, five more people sustained injuries and were transported to hospital for urgent medical treatment. The road remained closed throughout the day as specialist police investigators conducted a thorough forensic examination of the scene.

In a heartfelt statement, BCoM said: "BCOM is very sad to announce that there was a tragic accident early hours in the morning and the subsequent loss of four young lives. BCOM is closely supporting the families and liaising with the relevant authorities."
