Florida Man Arrested After 27 Incidents of Throwing Nails on Road
Man arrested for repeatedly throwing nails onto road

A man in Florida has been taken into custody following a series of bizarre and dangerous incidents where he allegedly littered a public road with hundreds of sharp nails.

Deputies Witness Act Leading to Arrest

Felix Uresti, 51, from Valrico, Florida, was apprehended by deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The arrest came after law enforcement officers directly observed Uresti in the act of placing nails from his vehicle onto Miller Road. He was driving a white Toyota Tundra at the time.

The investigation that led to this moment had been ongoing since 11 September of the previous year. Authorities were probing a pattern of similar incidents reported in the Valrico area.

A Pattern of Dangerous Behaviour

Over a span of five months, deputies linked Uresti to a total of 27 separate incidents where nails were found scattered on the roadway. The situation presented a significant danger to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians in the community.

Following his arrest, a search of Uresti's vehicle yielded a major piece of evidence: a large bucket filled with roofing nails. These nails were identical to those recovered from the scenes of the previous incidents.

Multiple Charges Filed

Uresti now faces a series of serious criminal charges as a result of his alleged actions. The charges filed against him include:

  • Six counts of criminal mischief
  • One count of throwing a deadly missile into a vehicle
  • A charge for violating Florida's state litter law

The charge of throwing a deadly missile is a serious felony in Florida, applicable when an object is propelled in a manner that could cause death or great bodily harm.

This case highlights the very real risks posed by seemingly random acts of vandalism on public highways. The deliberate placement of sharp objects on a road can lead to catastrophic tyre blowouts, loss of vehicle control, and serious accidents, endangering countless lives.
