Former Never Mind The Buzzcocks Host Mark Lamarr Banned from Driving
Mark Lamarr, the former host of the popular television show Never Mind The Buzzcocks, has been banned from driving for a period of six months following a series of speeding offences. The comedian appeared in court and pleaded guilty to driving at 46 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone in Twickenham, an incident that occurred in June of last year.
Court Penalties and Previous Offences
As a result of his guilty plea, Lamarr received three penalty points on his driving licence, a fine of £76, and was ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge along with £130 in prosecution costs. The court noted that Lamarr already had nine points on his licence from previous speeding offences, which contributed to the decision to impose the driving ban.
Exceptional Hardship Arguments Rejected
During the proceedings, Lamarr argued for exceptional hardship in an attempt to avoid the ban. He cited several personal circumstances, including the need to transport his daughter, visits to his mother who suffers from arthritis, and his own Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which makes using public transport particularly challenging. However, the court ruled that these circumstances did not meet the legal threshold for exceptional hardship, leading to the enforcement of the six-month driving disqualification.
The ruling underscores the strict application of driving laws, even when defendants present significant personal challenges. Lamarr's case highlights the balance between individual needs and public safety on the roads.
