Mum Killed in A55 Crash Remembered as Care Home 'Queen'

The North Wales community is mourning the tragic loss of a beloved mother and grandmother following a fatal collision on the A55 near Conwy. Jennifer Anne Brown, a woman in her 40s from Newborough on Anglesey, was pronounced dead at the scene after the car she was travelling in collided with a heavy goods vehicle.

Emergency Response and Serious Injuries

North Wales Police were called to the scene at junction 17 westbound in Conwy Morfa, under the A547 overpass, at approximately midday on Thursday, 29 January. The incident involved a car carrying four people and a lorry. Following the collision, two individuals were airlifted to hospitals in Stoke and Aintree with serious injuries, while a third person was transported by ambulance to Aintree.

Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan expressed his deepest condolences to the family and urged any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage to come forward to assist the ongoing investigation by the North Wales Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

A Life Dedicated to Care and Compassion

Jennifer, affectionately known as Jenny, had worked at Glan Rhos Nursing Home on Anglesey for more than two decades, where she was nicknamed "Queen" by colleagues. A heartfelt statement from the home described her as not just a staff member but family.

"She first walked through the door as a shy 17-year-old and, over time, blossomed into the caring and compassionate person we all came to know and love," the statement read. "Jenny touched countless lives throughout her career, always greeting everyone with a warm smile that could light up any room."

Personal Touches and Family Pride

Colleagues recalled that Jenny never arrived at work without her make-up, particularly her signature lipstick and favourite perfume. The tribute also highlighted her deep pride in her family, describing her as a devoted mother and grandmother.

"The news of her passing in such tragic circumstances has saddened us all," the statement continued. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family members also in the accident."

Road Closures and Investigation Details

Following the crash, both sides of the road were initially shut, with several air ambulances dispatched to the scene. The westbound carriageway closure has since been partially lifted, with traffic now flowing in a single lane from the Conwy Tunnel exiting at junction 17 Conwy Morfa off slip before re-joining the carriageway.

Police confirmed that the driver of the heavy goods vehicle is assisting with their inquiries as investigations continue. The nursing home reported that Jenny's colleagues have been profoundly affected by her loss, receiving numerous messages and phone calls offering condolences.
